Top Careers! A Special Report
by Jess Taylor (April 12, 2006)I’ll pick up on my ‘Choosing a Career’ series ASAP, but I wanted to take a quick break, because CNN Money did a special report that I think all of you might want to take a look at!
Money Magazine and Salary.com have compiled a report of top jobs. They rate careers based on salary and job prospects, taking into account stress levels, flexibility and how easy it is to enter and advance. Take a look – they have 166 different jobs listed, and you might see something that you’ve never even considered before!

so are these jobs with the highest stress or the lowest stress?

Good question - it’s a combination. Each job was scored on all factors, including salary, growth opportunities, flexibility, stress, etc.
So a high stress job that’s easy to enter and makes a lot of money might receive a similar score to a low stress job that doesn’t pay as well. If you look at any individual job on their top 50 list, the report gives it a letter grade on how stressful it is, with an A for the least stressful job and D or F for most stressful - in theory, at least, because I don’t think anything that stressful would make the cut!

i wonder where really high stress jobs with really low pay would rank?

I don’t know if the scale goes that low! It’d be interesting to see, though, particularly if there were any jobs that most people don’t think of as particularly high stress!

and if you could find me one of those low-stress, high-pay jobs I’d be all ears!
